We help you navigate the somewhat confusing process of connecting your iPad Pro to another display.

Apple's new iPad Pro not only ditched the home button, but it also made the switch from the company's proprietary Lightning connector to the far more common USB-C connector. Through that USB-C connection, you can use a wide range of accessories and peripherals with the iPad, including external monitors.

This was something Apple talked about during the iPad Pro's announcement. The thing is, it's not as straightforward as you would think. It also makes it possible to work with monitors that have up to 5K resolution. Not all USB-C connections are created equal. The iPad Pro uses the DisplayPort standard, but requires a high-speed cable in order to output at 5K resolutions. Here's a good example of how confusing it is to navigate what will work and when: For the most part, connecting the iPad Pro to a monitor will simply mirror your iPad's display. What you see on the iPad is what you see on the monitor.

Some apps, however, can do more with the second screen. When using iMovie, for example, you can either have the editing screen displayed on the monitor, or you can opt to have the project's output shown on the screen by selecting the external display button.

In Photos, pictures are displayed with a black background on the external monitor, and when a video is played it's shown only on the monitor. Other apps, such as Adobe's Lightroom, don't give you the option to select what's shown where. Instead, it displays the edited photo on the external display at all times. In the Settings app are a few options should you find yourself having issues with the quality of the output shown on a monitor or TV. Once there you can adjust the brightness of the external monitor and tailor the iPad Pro's output to it.

I would keep messing with the settings and check your network connection. Make sure your devices clearly see each other.

There is a nice and easy set up on link below. Same problem here.

Looks like the Plex boys broke TV out again. Same here for me. So, for some media, I get black bars at top and bottom of iPad, then on TV, I get black bars on sides too, when all that needs to happen is for it to fill the screen. In addition the app crashes approximately every 20 - 24 minutes. Plex is a fantastic product and I think we were all looking forward to the iOS update, and this has come as a big disappointment to me. I appreciate that for most people this is free software, but many of us have the paid version Plex Pass.

Also crashes on all devices after around 30 minutes. I have the same issue. I notice that with the new version of plex for iOS, it seems to use the mirror mode for HDMI display instead of the external screen mode for lack of a better term. When it played on the old version, it treated the external monitor as the main display, and looked great.

Now, it plays on the connected HDMI and still plays on the iOS screen, which means if I rotate the phone without the aspect lock, it will rotate on the remote display as well. I have to rotate the phone vertically then back to horizontally to get it to display correctly on the external screen. Also, all of my notifications appear on the remote screen which is highly irritating.

Before the iOS device would have a black screen and notifications would not appear on the external display. Getting used to the new Plex and indeed it is a nice update. Keep up the great work and look forward to the new AppleTV app. Will 4. To me well my parents this is the most critical thing.
